The Seanachai
The word means storyteller. And when I explained what I was trying to do with podcasting, an Irish friend told me of rich tradition of Irish storytellers, or Seanachai.
And in my enthusiasm (some might say insane drive) to produce an original story or essay every week, I neglected to consider that Seanachai might be all but unspellable.![]()
Naming difficulties non-withstanding, the Seanachai managed to gather a loyal and substantial following. The pieces were wide and varied, including short stories and essays. And all were produced with a certain, well, the best way is to listen to one. The very first one. It’s 2:52 and still one of the very best things I ever done.
